I love caramelized onion, it goes well with a lot of stuff. I personally love adding them to my burgers.
On to the ingredients!
- Onions, chopped. I usually use half of medium-sized onion for a single serving of beef burger,
- Olive oil, just to grease the frying pan,
- Salt,
- Balsamic vinegar
- Optionals:
- sugar, just a bit, if you want it to be sweeter
- Apple juice, preferably no sugar
Avoid using a non-stick frying pan if you can. Heat up your frying pan and grease it with olive oil, keep it on the low. Add the chopped onion, and then a pinch of salt. Stir for about 5 minutes, and add the balsamic vinegar, and keep stirring…
..for a couple minutes more, 15-20 minutes for a half or a single onion, or up to an hour a large batch of 3-4 large onions. See those sticky stuff on your pan? That’s the good stuff and that’s the reason why you shouldn’t use a non-stick frying pan. Scrape and stir them back into the onions.
Use immediately, or keep it sealed and store it in your fridge.
